1. CDC Evaluates State Preparedness
-----------------------------

CDC's Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response has released its inaugural report on public health emergency preparedness: Public Health Preparedness: Mobilizing State by State. It highlights the progress that has been made in state and local preparedness and response, identifies preparedness challenges facing public health departments, and outlines CDC’s efforts to address those challenges. Designed to increase accountability regarding the country’s investment in preparedness activities, the report presents national data as well as state-specific snapshots for all 50 states. The report and state specific snapshots are available at http://emergency.cdc.gov/publications/feb08phprep.

-----------------------------
2. Emory Prepares Health Profile of Georgia’s Children and Youth
-----------------------------

With support from the Healthcare Georgia Foundation, Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University has developed a user-friendly inventory of selected health indicators of Georgia’s children and youth, including healthcare utilization, health insurance coverage and access, preventive services, health behaviors, sexual activity, and child  health. An executive summary as well as the full report are available at http://www.healthcaregeorgia.org/Publications.cfm.

-----------------------------
3. Findings on Services and Support for Georgia Families of Special Needs Children
-----------------------------

The Georgia Health Policy Center has published its report on services and support for Georgia families of children with special needs. The report provides a systematic examination of the existing gaps in service and support for families with medically fragile and special needs children in Georgia. Available at http://aysps.gsu.edu/ghpc/files/NewFinalChampionsReport.pdf.

-----------------------------
4. Trust for America’s Health Releases State Reports on Disaster Preparedness
-----------------------------

Trust for America’s Health has released its fifth annual “Ready or Not? Protecting the Public’s Health from Disease, Disasters, and Bioterrorism” report. The report finds that while important progress has been made, critical areas of the nation’s emergency health preparedness effort still require attention. In addition, the continuing trend of annual cuts in federal funding for state and local preparedness activities threatens the nation’s safety. The “Ready or Not?” report contains state-by-state health preparedness scores based on 10 key indicators to assess health emergency preparedness capabilities. The full report with state-specific information is available at http://healthyamericans.org/reports/bioterror07/.
